Redeem Your Cans and Help Save History - GFD - 12/21/2006

Fund Drive Seeks to Raise Funds to Restore Town's First Fire Truck

Goshen firefighters want you to save your cans

GOSHEN - The Goshen Firefighters Association (GFA) is looking for your help.  Tucked away behind the Goshen firehouse sits the Town's first ever fire truck - a 1937 Dodge.  Oh, if this old fire truck could talk, it might tell you stories of how it would sit inside the original station and wait for firefighters to answer the call from the siren that was mounted on the roof of the building.  Or maybe it would tell you of how it was used as a muster truck with a team that was the envy of the surrounding departments.

Regardless, the GFA with the help of Steve Mollison, is asking that you bring your redeemable bottles and cans to the transfer station on Saturdays and consider donating them to support the restoration of the truck.  Just over $275 has been collected through mid-December.

This picture was taken during the line-up for Goshen's recent 225th Anniversary parade.  Thanks to the volunteer efforts of Phil Judd and Jason Dyer, and some spare parts from Steve Mollison, they were able to get her started and drive it down the Main Street route.

The GFA was recently approached by a Town resident who will match, dollar for dollar, the first $1,000 raised towards this restoration project.  We're in the beginning stages of this fund drive and will provide periodic updates so check back often to see our progress.
